KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man has breen arrested on suspicion of raping a 10-year-old girl in Cheras Baru.
Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail cops arrested the 35-year-old Myanmar man on Monday following a report made by the victim last Saturday.
"The victim in her report said the man had approached her while she was returning from extra classes, took her into the forest near the National Anti-Drug Agency in Kampung Cheras, and raped her," he said in a statement.
Azam said investigations revealed that the victim knew the suspect and were allegedly in a relationship.
He also said that a urine test on the suspect returned negative for drugs and the suspect has no prior criminal record.
"The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape which carries an imprisonment for up to 20 years and can also include whipping."
Azam said the suspect was remanded for seven days from Monday. ENDS
