JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested six individuals, including a couple, involved in a brawl at a housing estate on Jalan Bayu Puteri over a custody dispute concerning a two-year-old girl.
The suspects, three men and three women aged between 28 and 32, were caught on video fighting with long poles.
The footage was later uploaded on Facebook.
Johor Baru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the altercation began after a dispute between a 32-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman over visitation rights to their daughter.
He said the fight escalated when another man, still at large, allegedly provoked the situation.
He also said that one of the six suspects, the child's father, had five prior drug-related criminal records, while the others had no prior criminal history.
However, all suspects tested negative for drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact the district police headquarters at 07-2182323.
