KUALA TERENGGANU: Police today confirmed that no drug-related substances were found in the content of the electronic cigarette inhaled by a Form Four student in Kemaman, who fell unconscious after allegedly using the device last month.
Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin said this was based on a report received from the Chemistry Department last Tuesday.
Khari said according to the report, there were no traces of drugs or other prohibited substances found in the body of the 16-year-old teenager.
Based on the report, Khairi said the student cannot be charged with drug-abuse offences.
"The student is still being treated at the hospital but he is reported to be in stable condition," he told reporters after attending the launching of the state-level National Month and Flying the Jalur Gemilang event here today.
Present was state Information director Sait Yaman.
It was reported that the student was rushed to the hospital after he suffered seizures before he fell unconscious after allegedly using the device on July 22.
Khairi said the police will step up checks on all premises selling the device in the state.
"The police have carried out a series of operations, in which, we seized liquids containing illegal substances when we inspected premises selling electronic cigarettes or vape," he said.
