KUALA LUMPUR: A Selangor state executive council member strongly condemned the stabbing incident which injured two women at a surau's restroom in Kelana Jaya today.
State Islamic Affairs and Cultural Innovation Committee chairman Dr Fahmi Ngah described the incident at Surau Al-Ehsaniah Ahmadiah in SS5A as "unlawful, uncivilised, and rude."
"As the Seri Setia assemblyman, Selangor state exco member and a member of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), I have requested assistance from the police to swiftly hunt down this criminal and to maximise the legal actions that can be taken if found guilty.
"Places of worship and schools must be safe havens for every citizen. Such uncivilised acts and intimidation warrant an immediate, firm, and decisive response from all authorities involved. I also urge the public to promptly report any information they may have to the police," he said in a statement.
Fahmi said he prayed for the victims' recovery and wellbeing and hopes the police will swiftly apprehend the suspect.
Two women in their 20s and 50s were injured after being stabbed by a man who then went off in an Audi.
Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said it was still tracking down the suspect, believed to be a local man, who is still at large.
He said one woman sustained injuries to her stomach and head while the teacher had a big wound on her left arm.
