ALOR GAJAH: The suspect in the murder of Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi is expected to be charged at the magistrate's court here by tomorrow or Monday.
District police chief Superintendant Ashari Abu Samah said the police are expected to submit the investigation paper into the case to the deputy public prosecutor later today or tomorrow.
"Investigation is still ongoing. As I mentioned before, we will wait for the instruction from the state prosecution director once we complete the investigation.
"I cannot confirm how long it will take for the state prosecution director to look into the investigation paper.
"However, I can confirm that the investigation officer in the case will check with the state prosecution director on the next course of action.
"The suspect will be charged tomorrow or Monday," he told Harian Metro in a brief reply via WhatsApp today.
He also said Melaka police chief Datuk Zainol Samah is expected to issue a statement later today or tomorrow on the case including when the suspect will be charged.
Istiqomah, a teacher at SK Kota Masai 3, was reported missing after she failed to return home from work on Dec 26, 2023.
Earlier this year, the decapitated body of a woman was discovered in a rubbish bin along the Alor Gajah-Tampin trunk road, near Kampung Rimau, Pulau Sebang on New Year's eve.
Police later confirmed that the decapitated body was that of Istiqomah based on DNA analysis.
Acting on information, police arrested a married couple, aged 36 and 37, in Chemor, Perak on Aug 5.
Police said the male suspect was an acquaintance of the victim and they were involved in Forex investment.
