KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened an investigation into a former Member of Parliament who is alleged to be involved in a sexual harassment case involving a woman at a prominent supermarket in Kota Damansara.
Petaling Jaya police chief, ACP Shahrulnizam Ja'afar, said that a report was received from the victim, a woman in her twenties, on Aug 6, claiming she was sexually harassed twice by the man while at the supermarket.
He also noted that police detected an 18-second video circulating on social media concerning the allegations earlier today at 2 pm.
"A thorough investigation is being conducted under Section 507 A and Section 509 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement today.
According to Shahrulnizam, the investigation revealed that the accused works for a statutory body and holds the position of non-executive director.
