Bodies found in drain: Police obtain seven-day remand against suspect [WATCH]

ALOR STAR: Police have obtained a seven-day remand order against a foreign man in connection with the murder of his wife and daughter here yesterday.

The remand order for the 43-year-old man was obtained at the Alor Star magistrate's court, effective today until Aug 26, to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Police detained the suspect at a mosque in Bukit Pinang yesterday evening.

The arrest followed the discovery of the bodies of two females in a drain behind an abandoned building along Sultan Abdul Halim Highway on Sunday. 

Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Siti Nor Salawati Saad said the bodies, identified as a 34-year-old woman and a 10-year-old child, were found by the public who immediately alerted the police.

She said both bodies, fully clothed and without identification documents, were found lying face-down and face-up close to each other in a small drain, with slash wounds on their necks.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
