KOTA BARU: Police today obtained a seven-day remand order against a man in connection with the murder of a homeless man here three days ago.
The remand order against the 47-year-old suspect was obtained at the magistrate's court this morning.
The remand order, which ends on July 22, was obtained under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Police picked up the suspect in the town area yesterday evening.
It was reported that the victim, in his 30s, died while receiving treatment at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital on Saturday.
The victim, who was often seen sleeping at a bus stop near Jalan Wakaf Siku, died after being stabbed in the back with a sharp object.
Police confirmed yesterday that the homeless man was a Thai national with permanent resident (PR) status.
They have identified the suspect and are locating his family.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
