Man in jail for rape pleads not guilty to exposing himself to girl during robbery [WATCH]

MUAR: A man, sentenced to jail in May for raping a woman, was today charged with exposing himself to a girl during a robbery at her house in Segamat three months ago.

The accused, Manesh Raventharan, 25, pleaded not guilty to the charge read by the court interpreter before Sessions Court judge Sayani Mohd Nor.

Manesh is accused of committing physical sexual assault by exposing his genitals to a 13-year-old girl at her home at 6.40am on May 25.

He was charged under Section 15(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and caning.

Based on the police report, the victim, a Form 1 student, and her twin sister were asleep in their room when they heard a knock on the door.

The victim sent a voice message to her mother informing her of the situation before the accused broke down the door and charged towards her while brandishing a pair of scissors.

Terrified, the victim remained silent while her twin hid under the blanket and sent another voice message to their mother for help.

The accused then attempted an indecent act but fled when he realised the victim's twin was seeking help.

Deputy public prosecutor Danial Munir prosecuted the case, while the accused was not represented.

The prosecution did not offer bail, citing that the accused was serving a prison sentence in Kluang.

The court accepted this request and set Sept 23 for the submission of documents and to appoint the defence's counsel.

On May 28, the accused was sentenced to 20 years in prison and 12 strokes of the rotan by the Segamat Sessions Court after he was convicted for rape and theft.

He had a prior record for housebreaking, robbery and sexual assault.
