KUALA LUMPUR: A labourer, 24, has been arrested on suspicion of raping a teenager, who is a person with a disability, known through a matchmaking application in an incident in Taman Saga, here, on Aug 17.
Ampang Jaya district deputy police chief superintendent Nazruel Ekram Abu Saare said the police received information regarding the incident from the victim's 36-year-old mother.
"According to the complainant, the suspect asked about the closed circuit camera (CCTV) in the living room that was not working.
"The 16-year-old victim who is also mentally challenged later informed that the suspect came to the house and raped her," he said in a statement today.
Following the incident, the police arrested the suspect at a house in Subang at 10pm, on Aug 21.
He said the suspect tested negative for drugs and was remanded for five days from Aug 22 to 26, with the remand expected to be extended.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, which carries an imprisonment for up to 20 years and can also include whipping.
