KUALA LUMPUR: A Myanmar man believed to be an agent for a syndicate which brought foreigners into the country illegally through Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 will be charged in court tomorrow.
He is expected to face human trafficking charges at the Shah Alam court.
The man is among 12 people arrested in connection with the syndicate's activities.
These included five officers of an enforcement agency who were alleged to have been paid off by the syndicate to let the foreigners through without the proper checks and documentation.
The 12 had been picked up in a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission swoop on Aug 20 in an operation codenamed Op Pump, in several areas in the Klang Valley, Kelantan and Penang.
The Myanmar man acted as an agent for the syndicate, coordinating the movements and entry of the illegal immigrants into Malaysia and paying off the enforcement officers.
The syndicate were believed to have paid the enforcement officers between RM500 and RM2,500 each to allow the illegal immigrants to pass through without inspection.
