SUNGAI PETANI: Three men, including siblings, were charged in separate courts here today with the murder of a carwash worker and for causing severe injury to a security guard.
At the magistrate's court here, no plea was recorded after charges were read out to V. Mathavan, 36, V. Navin Kumar, 27, and R. Puvaneswaran, 31, by the court interpreter before magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani.
The accused, along with two suspects still at large, are alleged to have murdered S. Naarenthiran, 28, in an alley behind Snow Car Wash, Taman Bedong Jaya, between 2.15am and 2.30am on Aug 15.
They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or a least 30 years' jail and at least 12 strokes of the cane if convicted.
The prosecution was led by inspector Nurain Safinah Minhat, while the accused were represented by lawyer P. Vaasudevan.
The court ordered all accused to be held without bail and set Sept 26 for case mention to transfer the case to the High Court.
At the Sessions Court here, the three men pleaded not guilty to causing severe injury after the charges were read out by the court interpreter before judge Roslan Hamid.
The accused, along with two suspects still at large, are alleged to have caused severe injury to J. Dinesh, 29, at an empty lot in Kampung Toh Pawang, Bedong, about 2am on the same date.
They were charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 20 years' jail, a fine or caning if convicted.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor M. Lishantini, while the accused were represented by lawyer P. Vaasudevan.

On Aug 16, it was reported that a carwash worker died after an attack by a group of men armed with machetes, while a security guard sustained severe injuries after being slashed by the same group.
Police arrested 13 men, aged 19 to 40s, to assist in investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
