NILAI: A baby boy, estimated to be only 2 weeks old, was found on a sofa in a surau near Nilai 3, 7.30pm yesterday.
It is understood that the baby was wrapped in a cloth and placed in a red plastic bag.
He was found in good health, with no injuries.
District police chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim said it was not known who had abandoned the baby.
He said it was believed that the child was left just before Maghrib.
"At about 8.15pm yesterday, the district headquarters was contacted by a man who found a baby boy wrapped in a cloth in a surau," he said in a statement.
Malik said initial investigations found that the person who abandoned the boy left the surau in a vehicle, the make and model of which has not been determined.
He said investigations are being conducted under Section 317 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth with the intention of abandoning the baby.
