AMPANG JAYA: Two teenagers found themselves on the wrong side of the law when they were caught riding motorcycles dangerously in Jalan Ampang yesterday.
District police chief assistant commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the Ampang Jaya Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Unit detained the 18-year-olds in an operation.
He said the suspects were seen riding next to each other and lowering their bodies to check their speed.
"They were taken to the Ampang Jaya police station and their bikes were seized."
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a fine between RM5,000 and RM15,000. Offenders can be banned from holding or obtaining a vehicle licence upon conviction.
Azam said another man was detained for using a car's registration number on his motorcycle.
The case is being investigated under Section 108(3) of the act, which carries a fine between RM5,000 and RM20,000, 12 months to five years' jail, or both, upon conviction.
