SAR operations underway after lorry plunges into sea near Westport

KUALA LUMPUR: The Fire and Rescue Department is conducting search and rescue (SAR) operations after a lorry fell into the sea near Westport in Port Klang.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the incident involved a local male who has yet to be located.

He said the department received a distress call about the incident at 12.42pm today, and 25 personnel were deployed to the scene.

"Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the accident involved a lorry that had fallen into the sea, with one victim involved.

"The victim is a 24-year-old local male who has yet to be located.

"SAR operations are currently being conducted by the department alongside the Port Klang Water Rescue Team (PPDA) as well as its fire station," he said in a statement.

The statement, however, did not specify whether the victim was the driver of the vehicle.

"Additionally, the SAR operations also involve three boats from the Shah Alam station, marine police and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, respectively."
