KUALA LUMPUR: Petaling Jaya police are investigating allegations that two of their own had extorted money from foreigners they had "arrested".
Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said the investigation was initiated after a video which allegedly showed the incident in question appeared on a Telegram channel.
"About 5pm today, the Petaling Jaya police headquarters detected a video on Edisi Siasat, which allegedly involves two policemen from the district police headquarters who were said to have detained and taken bribes from two foreigners.
"The Petaling Jaya police headquarters is currently conducting an internal investigation to verify the actual events.
"Police will not protect any of our men involved in misconduct or criminal acts," he said in a statement.
