KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched an investigation into a payment claim related to the Education Ministry's 1BestariNet service tender, valued at RM4 billion, which was awarded to YTL Communications Sdn Bhd in 2011.
Sources disclosed that MACC conducted raids at a government office and the YTL Communications Sdn Bhd office in Kuala Lumpur today.
Several documents were seized, and the commission is in the process of identifying witnesses to assist in the investigation.
"The focus of the investigation is on a claim document containing false details, involving a payment of approximately RM2.7 billion," a source said.
The investigation is also exploring other criminal elements under the MACC Act 2009.
MACC Investigation Division senior director, Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim, confirmed the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
He urged all parties to allow the MACC to conduct its investigation without interference.
