Mother arrested for abusing daughter, police pursue boyfriend

KUALA SELANGOR: A 32-year-old woman was arrested yesterday (Sept 4) on suspicion of abusing her daughter.

Kuala Selangor acting district police chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohd Ambia Nordin, said the arrest was made at 5.14pm following a report by the woman's 28-year-old ex-husband.

"The complainant, who works at a fish factory, received a WhatsApp message from his mother showing a picture of his five-year-old daughter, who is under the care of his ex-wife, with visible bruises," he said when contacted last night.

Ambia said the father saw his daughter with bruises, swelling, and wounds all over her body and legs.

"The complainant's mother told him that the child said that she had been beaten by her mother and the mother's boyfriend," he added. The couple separated in 2020.

The ex-husband claimed that the child's kindergarten teacher had also asked about the injuries, but the mother said the child had fallen down the stairs.

"A neighbour later sent the child back to the complainant's mother. The child then told her grandmother that she had been beaten by her mother and pinched, and doused with hot water by the mother's boyfriend," Ambia said.

Police believe the boyfriend took the child and her mother to his residence in Yan, Kedah, before returning to Kuala Selangor last Sunday.

"The suspect will be remanded at the Sungai Besar magistrate's court today for further investigation under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001," Ambia said.

Police are looking for the boyfriend, who is believed to be in Kedah.
