KUALA SELANGOR: A man, who is the boyfriend of a suspect in a child abuse case has been arrested by police yesterday (Sept 5).
The man was sought by police for allegedly abusing a five-year-old child, who is also the first suspect's biological daughter.
Acting Kuala Selangor district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Ambia Nordin said the 26-year-old suspect was apprehended at a house in Sik, Kedah around 4.30pm.
" The arrest was made with the help and cooperation of officers and personnel from the Sik Criminal Investigation Division and the Kuala Selangor district police yesterday. He was brought back to Kuala Selangor to facilitate police investigations," he said.
Mohd Ambia said preliminary checks showed that the man had two prior records for drug abuse.
"The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001," he said, adding the suspect would be presented to the Kuala Selangor Magistrate's Court this morning for a remand application.
Earlier, it was reported that the child who was placed under her mother's care after parents divorced in 2020, had been abused.
She allegedly endured the abuse from her 32-year-old mother and her new boyfriend for almost four years.
Among the abuse she was allegedly subjected to include hot water scalding, punches, pinches and was beaten by both suspects.
The child's mother was arrested yesterday (Sept 5) at her home in Kuala Selangor and has been remanded for five days.
