Kelantan GOF thwarts coconut smuggling attempt

TUMPAT: General Operations Force personnel thwarted a man's attempt to smuggle 40,000kg of coconuts, worth nearly RM80,000, into Thailand yesterday.

GOF Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the coconuts were found inside a trailer parked near the Kelantan-Thailand border during Op Taring Wawasan conducted by the Ninth Battalion.

"A local driver was detained at the scene."

Initial investigations showed that he was hired to transport the coconuts to an illegal jetty.

In an operation on Monday, the GOF team arrested a man and seized 210,000 sticks of cigarettes worth more than RM260,000, along with the vehicle used for smuggling, in Pengkalan Kubor.
