KOTA KINABALU: A man was arrested on suspicion of stealing women's underwear from a hostel of a college in Likas, here, last Tuesday.

The 33-year-old was detained at around 11pm after being found in a suspicious state, wearing only an underwear.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda said the incident was noticed by the victim, a 21-year-old female college student.

He said the victim found the main door of her hostel open before noticing the presence of an unknown man inside the premises.

"When found, the suspect was semi-naked, wearing only an underwear.

"Fearing for her safety, the victim immediately lodged a police report," he said in a media statement today.

Kasim said acting on the report, the suspect, who was carrying a backpack, was successfully apprehended at the same location shortly after.

He added that a search of the backpack revealed several pieces of women's underwear believed to have been stolen by the suspect.

"The suspect has been detained for further investigation under Sections 379/448 of the Penal Code," he said.
