Woman fined RM700 for allowing 10-year-old son to drive

SEREMBAN: A woman was fined RM700 by a Magistrate's Court for allowing her 10-year-old son to drive her car earlier this month.

The woman, 45, who works as a cleaner, paid the fine after pleading guilty to the offence under Section 39(5) of the Road Transport Act for allowing an underage person to drive.

According to the case facts, theincident happened on the night of Sept 3 in Taman Arowana Impian here.

The law allows for a maximum fine of RM2,000 or six months in jail or both.

The woman, who was not represented, appealed for a lower fine, citing her RM1,500 monthly salary.

She also said she had to look after her three school-going children and husband who is unwell.

Magistrate Marlissa Mohd Fahmy fined her RM700 in default of seven days in jail.

Prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor M Pusppa.
