KOTA TINGGI: Police have confirmed the discovery of human remains at a sewage treatment plant in Taman Seri Penawar, Bandar Penawar.
Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said that a report was received yesterday from a contractor who found what appeared to be human bones while cleaning at the site.
Following the report, police, with assistance from the forensic unit of the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters, investigated the scene.
"Upon examination, we found a sarong caught in the waste grinding machine," Yusof said in a statement.
"Bandar Penawar Fire and Rescue Department assisted in retrieving the remains and bones that were trapped in the grinder."
"A thorough search at the scene led to the discovery of a skull, seven long bones, a pair of pelvic bones, and a clump of hair," he added.
The bone specimens have been sent to the Forensic Medicine Department of Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) for an autopsy.
The case is classified as a sudden death report pending the results of the autopsy.
