KL drug bust:  RM5.88 mil in drugs seized, three arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: A drug distribution ring has been crippled with the seizure of RM5.88 million worth of drugs following the arrest of three men here.

The syndicate were supplied with drugs from a source across the border in the north and catered to buyers within the Klang Valley.

Federal Narcotic Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Khaw Kok Chin said based on intelligence gathered, police launched two raids in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

"We first raided a condominium parking lot and arrested a 30-year-old man and seized 182.9g of methamphetamine from his sling bag.

"The suspect then led police to a condominium unit where police arrested another suspect, aged 33, and seized 111.23kg of methamphetamines, 29.06kg of ganja, 7.51kg of ecstasy and 6.07kg of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) in crystal form," he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters on Friday.

He said checks revealed the two men allegedly worked as a storekeeper and runner for the syndicate.

Khaw said on the same day, police also conducted a follow-up raid and arrested a third man, also aged 30, at a restaurant at Taman Mutiara.

"We believe the suspect also works as a runner for the same syndicate.

"Our checks revealed the drugs seized are worth RM5.88 million and could supply 660,500 drug users," he said adding that further investigations revealed the syndicate got their drug supply from a northern neighbouring country.

He said police also seized and forfeited RM750 cash and two cars.

"Based on our investigations the condominium was rented for RM2,000 a month to be used as a storage facility to keep the drugs.

"The three suspects were paid between RM3,000 and RM5,000 a month.

"They are believed to have been operating since early this year and were distributing drugs to buyers in the country with an emphasis on buyers within the Klang Valley area," he said adding that the suspects have been remanded for seven days to help with further investigations.

Khaw said they believe the syndicate mastermind was still at large.

"All three suspects have prior records for various criminal and drug offences.

"We will conduct investigations from all angles to find the remaining syndicate members and bring them to face action for their crimes," he said.
