SEPANG: Police have seized RM2.6 million worth of drugs intended for export following the arrest of a suspect in Sabak Bernam.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that the 40-year-old suspect was nabbed around 4.30am on Aug 8 by the Sabak Bernam Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department.
During the raid, authorities discovered 50 packets of herbal tea containing over 50kg of methamphetamines and 6kg of ecstasy pills hidden in a Perodua Alza car.
"We seized drugs worth RM2.6 million from the vehicle.
"The suspect, who is unemployed and has a troubling history with six prior criminal and drug offences, tested positive for methamphetamines," he told reporters at the Sepang police headquarters.
Hussein confirmed that the drugs were destined for a neighbouring country.
"Our investigations revealed that these drugs were intended for export," he said.
In a follow-up operation, police also detained an Indonesian man and his girlfriend, who are suspected of being part of the network buying the drugs.
"These two individuals are believed to be linked to the drug distribution network," he said.
The local suspect, identified as a transporter, was reportedly paid RM2,800 per trip.
"He had completed two trips before his arrest. We believe he was transporting these drugs as part of a larger operation," said Hussein.
The seized drugs could have serviced approximately 120,000 users if they had reached the market.
Hussein urged the public to come forward with any information regarding similar activities.
"We encourage anyone with information to contact the police or visit the nearest police station immediately," he said.
