Prisoner on the lam after slipping away from Sungai Buloh Hospital

SUNGAI BULOH: A prisoner from Sungai Buloh prison has escaped while receiving treatment at the Sungai Buloh Hospital today.

A manhunt is now underway for 27-year-old convict, who has been identified as Kalai Kumar Anandan.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said they were alerted to the incident at around 3.56pm.

According to Hafiz, the man had eight records for crime and drug offences.

"Our district control centre received information that a male convict had escaped from the hospital.

"Checks revealed that Kalai Kumar Anandan, 27, was receiving medical treatment. They only noticed that the convict was not there when they checked his bed," he said in a statement.

"We are currently working on tracking down and apprehending this individual. We urge the public to contact the police immediately if they have information on his whereabouts," he said.

News of the convict's escape has been circulating on social media, claiming the man escaped at around 1pm.

Messages have also been circulated urging homeowners to keep their houses locked at all times and to be extra vigilant.
