SUNGAI BULOH: An Indonesian man has been arrested to assist in the investigation of a dog that was allegedly beaten and killed within a school compound in Sungai Buloh.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor confirmed that the dog's carcass had been sent to the Central Zone Veterinary Laboratory for a post-mortem.
"We have apprehended an Indonesian man, a permanent resident, to aid in the investigation," he said, adding that they had recorded statements from four individuals so far.
He said that police had initiated an investigation under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 following a gathering held to protest the abuse and killing of a dog.
A video of the gathering has circulated on social media.
It was reported that police were investigating a case involving a black and brown dog that was allegedly beaten and killed within the compound of a school here.
Police are investigating the case under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief related to the killing or maiming of an animal, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) for misuse of network facilities or services, as the alleged abuse was shared by a TikTok user.
The complainant, who filed a police report, said that on Nov 29 at 10am, she received a call from her child, who attends school here.
The child informed her that a dog had been beaten at the school.
The complainant later discovered that the incident was posted on TikTok by a user named Divenyasshni, showing the dog lying motionless and dead.
Upon visiting the school, she spoke with a teacher and a cleaner, both of whom confirmed the incident.
According to the cleaner's statement, the dog's head had become stuck in the school's fence, and the cleaner had struck the dog's head until it died. The carcass was then buried.
