KUALA LUMPUR: Five men have been arrested for attempting to cross the border in motorhomes bearing the Global Ikhwan Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) logos via Bukit Kayu Hitam earlier today.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the Northern Zone Border Intelligence Unit detected two motorhomes with Dubai licence plates at the border near the Malaysia-Thailand entr/exit point at about 6pm on Wednesday.
"Further observation of the vehicles showed that they were moving to the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine & Security (ICQS) Complex headed towards Thailand.
"Kedah Criminal Investigation Department assisted in stopping the vehicles and checking them before arresting five local men," he said when contacted on Wednesday.
He said initial investigations revealed the men were aged between 28 and 41.
"The men were from Kampung Melayu Subang, Rawang, Segamat, Lumut and Johor Baru.
"We have also seized a Newmar motorhome, a Ford motorhome and a Perodua MyVi car," he said adding that the two motorhomes had GISBH logos, as well as Dubai licence plates.
He said police were in the process of interogating the suspects and going through the process of documentation.
"We will take all those arrested as well as the seizures to the Kubang Pasu police headquarters for further action.
Last Wednesday, police launched a major crackdown, dubbed Op Global, on welfare homes run by GISBH.
Twenty homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan were raided with 402 children rescued.
Screenings of the children revealed a number of them had physical and emotional injuries.
Further investigations revealed at least 13 of them were also allegedly sodomised.
GISB has since denied the allegations of child exploitation and sexual abuse.
