5 who tried to leave country in 'GISB' motorhomes remanded

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have remanded five men who yesterday attempted to leave Malaysia in motorhomes bearing the Global Ikhwan Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB) logo.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said today one man is believed to be the son of a member of the company.

He declined to say if the man is the son of GISB executive chairman and chief executive officer Nasiruddin Mohd Ali.

"The remand orders were obtained at the Shah Alam magistrate's court. The suspects will be held on remand until Sept 25 to facilitate further investigations.

"We are investigating why the five were driving the motorhomes out of the country," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking In Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act.

The five had been arrested while attempting to cross the border via Bukit Kayu Hitam.

Razarudin had said a border intelligence unit detected the two motorhomes with Dubai licence plates about 6pm on Wednesday.

The vehicles were moving to the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine & Security Complex.

Police stopped the vehicles and arrested the five men, aged between 28 and 41.

They also seized the motorhomes and a car.

Last Wednesday, police launched a crackdown — Op Global — on welfare homes run by GISB.

Twenty homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan were raided and more than 300 children were rescued.

Screenings of the children revealed a number of them had physical and emotional injuries. At least 13 were allegedly sodomised.

GISB has since denied the allegations of child exploitation and sexual abuse.
