Strong winds ravage Gurun R&R, uproot trees, no casualties

GURUN: Videos showing fierce winds and heavy rain battering the rest and service area (R&R) at the North-South Expressway near here have gone viral.

The footage reveals alarming scenes of trees being uprooted and debris strewn across the area due to the treacherous conditions.

The incident is believed to have occurred at about 2pm.

Social media users reported uprooted trees at two locations — the southbound exit of the R&R and main road near the northbound area.

The expressway concessionaire's Plusline told the New Straits Times that traffic remained unaffected despite the inclement weather.

The Fire and Rescue Department, meanwhile confirmed there were no casualties due to what happened.

The NST has also reached out to the Civil Defence Force for more information.

Meanwhile, Kedah Malaysia Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director Muhammad Khalil Abd Aziz has issued a weather alert, forecasting continuous rain and strong winds in the area until tomorrow.
