Kedah flood evacuees number soars to over 6,400

ALOR STAR: The floods situation in Kedah continues to worsen as the number of evacuees has soared to over 6,400 people today as compared to over 4,000 people yesterday.

According to an update by the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) this morning,

6,435 people are sheltering at 37 temporary flood relief centres (PPS) in seven districts across the state.

Kota Setar is the worst hit district with 2,535 victims from 788 families are taking shelter at 11 PPS, followed by Kubang Pasu with 1,832 victims from 588 families have been relocated to 10 PPS.

In Pokok Sena, 929 people from 278 families are placed at 5 PPS, while in Pendang, 739 victims from 201 families are sheltered at five PPS.

Meanwhile, in southern Kedah, 184 victims from 61 families from Kuala Muda district have been relocated to three PSS.

In Bandar Baharu, 138 victims from 32 families are taking shelter at SK Sungai Kechil Ulu PPS, followed by Kulim with 78 people from 24 families having been relocated to two PPS.

The state recorded the first floods casualty yesterday after a 63-year-old man from Pendang drowned during a fishing mishap.
