Kota Setar faces surge in flood evacuees despite overall decline in Kedah

ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah has slightly decreased overnight to about 8,000 but Kota Setar continues to see a rise in victims seeking shelter.

As of 8am today, the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported 8,051 evacuees remain in 49 temporary flood relief centres (PPS) across six districts, a drop from the 8,648 recorded at 4pm yesterday.

All 182 evacuees from 54 families at two PPS in Kuala Muda have returned home following better conditions in the area.

Despite this improvement, Kota Setar remains the hardest-hit district, with 3,858 evacuees from 1,158 families staying in 16 PPS, an increase from 3,421 yesterday.

Kubang Pasu is second most affected with 2,431 evacuees from 764 families housed in 14 PPS, while Sik has 695 evacuees from 211 families sheltering in seven PPS.

Pokok Sena is the fourth most affected, with 596 evacuees from 178 families in four PPS. Meanwhile, Padang Terap has 442 evacuees from 127 families staying in seven PPS, and Baling is hosting 30 evacuees from 11 families in a single PPS.
