MELAKA: A mechanic was sentenced to seven days in jail after pleading guilty to punching his younger sister during an argument over a fart.
Ridzuan Samsudin, 37, admitted to the charge before Magistrate Khairunnisak Hassni at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court, Malaysia Gazette reported.
The incident occurred in the backseat of a car at Lotus supermarket on Jalan Peringgit, Melaka Tengah, around 11am on Sept 11.
Ridzuan hit and punched his sister, Nurul Hanis Samsudin, 32, on her nose and mouth.
The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a penalty of up to two years in prison, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both.
The altercation began when Ridzuan farted and laughed, leading to a reprimand from his sister, who also raised past issues.
Enraged, he insulted her and punched her multiple times, causing her mouth to bleed and swell.
A police report was filed, and a medical examination confirmed she suffered soft tissue injuries to her mouth, right cheek, and left forehead.
Deputy public prosecutor Wardah Ishhar called for a suitable punishment due to the injury caused.
Ridzuan, unrepresented, requested a lighter sentence, citing financial responsibilities for his wife and six children.
The court sentenced him to seven days in jail, starting from his arrest on Sept 14.
