PENDANG: The Kedah government has pledged to cooperate with police investigations into Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB).
The company is under intense scrutiny by law enforcement and religious authorities due to allegations of child sexual abuse and exploitation.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor gave an assurance the state would support a thorough investigation.
"We will leave it to the authorities. If there is any wrongdoing, action must be taken. If not, we respect their rights under the constitution.
"But if an offence is found, action is necessary. No one is above the law — not GISB or anyone else," he told reporters today.
Pas Ulama Council chief Datuk Ahmad Yahaya echoed this, saying firm action was needed if investigations found violations that were religious or criminal in nature.
However, Yahaya, who is also Pokok Sena member of parliament, said any punitive measures should be just and not affect the company's business.
On the possibility of Kedah declaring the group as deviant, Yahaya said every state's religious authority had the right to make a decision based on their findings.
He said that to his knowledge, no Kedah Pas member was involved with GISB.
