IPOH: A total of 69 school students were among 136 people arrested by police in the 'Op Samseng Jalanan' on Jalan Klebang Ria, yesterday.
The operation, which began at 6pm, was conducted by a team of 79 officers from the Perak Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department, the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and the State Department of Environment (JAS).
Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said that those detained included 130 men and six women aged between 12 and 45.
He said that 22 of them were Form Five students scheduled to take the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) trial exam this month.
"Police have arrested two men for illegal racing under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, while two others in their 20s tested positive for methamphetamine.
"During the inspection, a corporal was injured when struck by a motorcycle being checked.
"This area is a hotspot as we received complaints that it is frequently used for illegal racing and has many spectators," he told reporters at a press conference at Kampung Tawas Police Station here, last night.
Azizi said that the operation resulted in the detention of 101 motorcycles, with 20 seized for various offences.
"A total of 168 summonses were issued for various violations, with the most serious being riding motorcycles without a license.
"Additionally, 11 compound notices were issued by JAS for failing to comply with the permitted maximum noise emission limits," he said.
