ALOR STAR: The local governments in Kedah will shut down Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) outlets in the state if they are found guilty of flouting business licensing regulations.
The state Housing, Local Government and Health Committee chairman Mansor Zakaria said, as for now, authorities in the state had yet to see premises linked to GISBH breaching their business licensing regulations.
"For as long as they are not found guilty (of any offences), we will not punish them because, prior to this, they were clean (did not flout business licence regulations).
"For example, if they are running a restaurant, however on the premises, they are carrying out other unrelated businesses. Then, we can take action to revoke their business licence," he told reporters after witnessing an agreement signing ceremony for the upgrading and managing of the Shahab Perdana Express Bus Terminal here today.
Mansor said the state government would leave it to the police to carry out investigations on the company.
"At the moment we have not received any instructions to investigate. We (local councils) should not be encroaching into other authorities' jurisdiction. However, if there is a report, we will act," he said.
Mansor said he had a drink at a GISB restaurant once, but the premises had ceased operations following the police's crackdown on the organisation's leaders and followers recently.
Yesterday, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor vowed that the state government would cooperate with police investigations into GISBH.
The company is under intense scrutiny by law enforcement and religious authorities due to allegations of child sexual abuse and exploitation.
