Shopkeeper caught selling cooking oil at RM2.80 per packet

KUALA TERENGGANU: The state's Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry seized 153 packets of 1kg subsidised cooking oil worth RM382.50 which was sold without a licence at a grocery shop at Kampung Banggol Tok Jiring here yesterday.

Its director Saharuddin Mohd Kia said the 6pm raid was conducted following media reports concerning the supply and pricing issues of subsidised cooking oil in the district.

"Investigations revealed the premises did not have a valid license to sell the controlled item and sold each packet at RM2.80, which exceeds the RM2.50 controlled price set by the ministry."

He added that the premises owner is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Saharuddin said traders must not impose any condition on customers who want to purchase subsidised polybag cooking oil.

He said the retailers are allowed only to limit the quantity purchased by each individual to allow more consumers to enjoy the government subsidy.

He said subsidised cooking oil packets can be obtained at Jualan Rahmah programmes which are carried out at all the parliamentary and state constituencies across Terengganu.
