Man pleads not guilty to slashing friend for wooing wife

KOTA BARU: A labourer pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court to slashing his friend, who came between him and his wife, ultimately leading to the couple's divorce.

The accused, Afandi Mahadi, 37, made the plea in front of Judge Zulkifli Abllah.

According to the charge sheet, Afandi is accused of causing grievous hurt to Nizam Sulaiman, 58, using a parang on the evening of Sept 17 at a house in Kampung Tok Dosah, Perupok.

The charge was framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad requested bail be set at RM20,000 because of the severity of the victim's injuries.

Afandi's lawyer, Ahmad Adha Amir Yasser Amri requested bail with one surety because his client's actions arose from the victim's interference in his marriage.

"He works as a labourer and only earns RM70 a day," said Adha.

The court fixed bail at RM10,000 and set Oct 14 for case remention.
