KUALA MUDA: The police want the public to snap pictures of illegally modified vehicles and share them on social media.
Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh said this would help police deal with mat rempit (illegal racers).
"I urge the residents of Kedah — if you spot any vehicle, be it a car, motorcycle, or even a bicycle — take a photo and share it.
"If there's a modified motorcycle that doesn't adhere to specifications, like with modified tyres, missing brakes, or an upgraded carburettor for racing — snap it and spread the word.
"If these vehicles are on the roads, the public can take photos, and after that, the police will track them down, even to their homes," he said at a press conference today.
Fisol emphasised that cooperation from all sectors is essential to address the issue, especially with cars or motorcycles that have been modified, as they not only endanger the riders' lives but also put the public at risk.
Fisol said 242 exhaust pipes, 77 'swing arms', five carburettors, and six other items confiscated under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act, were disposed of today.
Section 64 empowers the authorities to seize vehicles operating against the law.
He added that the total number of seized items this year stands at 1,412.
"However, on July 11, 302 items had already been disposed of after the court imposed sentences and issued disposal orders.
"In narcotics cases, the total value of various drugs, amounting to RM2.9 million, involving 2,826 investigation papers, will be disposed of tomorrow by a government-appointed company in Negri Sembilan," he said.
The disposal of seized items for traffic and narcotics cases spans incidents from 2013 to 2022.
