JOHOR BARU: Frustrated by illegal street racers evading roadblocks, police took an innovative approach by deploying two buses to physically block escape routes, effectively cornering the offenders during a joint traffic operation along Jalan Skudai to Jalan Pantai Lido, last night.
Johor Baru (south) district police Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said that this bold strategy was adopted after repeated attempts to apprehend the thrill-seeking motorcyclists failed, as they skillfully navigated through conventional roadblocks.
The new tactic proved successful, resulting in the seizure of approximately 115 motorcycles and the issuance of 154 summonses.
Over the two-day operation, which ran from 5pm to 1am over the weekend, police inspected 286 individuals and 257 vehicles.
The operation, involving more than 100 enforcement officers from various agencies including the Johor Road Transport Department (RTD), the Environment Department (DoE), and the Johor Baru City Council, yielded significant results.
RTD officers issued 54 summonses for various offences, and 46 motorcycles were cited for exceeding legal noise limits.
Additionally, 52 inspection notices were issued to motorcyclists.
During the operation, police also arrested a 28-year-old man who tested positive for methamphetamine.
