KUALA LUMPUR: Police have uncovered a social media post soliciting funds for the welfare of children affected by actions taken against Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH).
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the post, uploaded by a Facebook user named Dzulkifli Salleh, was shared on the "Meru and Bukit Kapar Komuniti" Facebook page.
"We believe this is an attempt by irresponsible parties to exploit the situation," he said today.
Razarudin urged the public to remain vigilant online and not to fall prey to such schemes.
GISBH has been under police investigation following raids on September 11 at 20 welfare homes allegedly operated by the company. The operations led to the rescue of 402 children, many of whom were found to have suffered physical and emotional abuse.
Further investigations revealed that 13 of the children had been victims of sexual assault, including sodomy.
GISBH has since denied allegations of child exploitation and abuse.
