KOTA BARU: A 35-year-old labourer was charged at the Sessions Court here today with assaulting his wife using an iron on Monday.
Mohd Nurhakiman Mohd Nasir pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before Judge Hakim Zulkifli Abllah.
According to the charge sheet, Nurhakim was accused of committing the offence at a house in Kampung Rambutan Rendang here at 7.30am on Sept 23.
He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using any instrument, which carries the maximum 10 years' imprisonment or a fine or both if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Hasyime Rosli prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
Kamarul Hasyime did not offer any bail since the accused and his wife were living in the same house.
The court later set Oct 29 as mention to allow the accused to appoint a lawyer.
