KUANTAN: A senior citizen who was unfamiliar with the roads here ended up driving against traffic along Jalan Kuantan-Pekan today.
The 76-year-old woman was captured driving her Perodua Axia vehicle in a video which has since gone viral on social media.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said police received information about the viral video which was posted on Facebook today.
"Police managed to track down the driver and the woman was present at the police station today. Investigations revealed the woman was travelling alone from Kuantan to an old folks home in Penor, near here.
"Due to age factor and not being familiar with the routes, the woman claimed she got lost and, without realising it, ended up driving against traffic flow. She was issued a summons under Section 79(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 over her failure to comply with traffic signs," he said in a statement.
Wan Zahari reminded drivers to ensure they were fit and healthy to sit behind the wheel, and not violate traffic rules which could pose danger to them and other road users.
