SEGAMAT: A local was left in shock when her savings of RM53,600 were wiped out by an individual who offered a non-existent job opportunity on TikTok recently.
District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the 43-year-old victim lodged a report two days ago saying she had gotten to know the suspect via the social media application last month.
"The victim claimed the individual had offered her an online job as a third party for purchasing items on the application.
"The victim accepted the job offer and proceeded to fill out her personal details in a website provided by the person.
"She was then asked to increase her sales ratings on the website by buying some items , for which she would receive a commission.
"The victim made nine money transfer transactions amounting to RM53,600 to four bank accounts, but she reported that she had yet to receive any commission," he said when met at the district police headquarters.
Zamry advised the public to check bank account numbers provided by anyone they did not know with the police Commercial Crime Investigation Department website at https://ccid.rmp.gov.my/semakmule or download the Semak Mule application before performing any transaction.
"The public, especially retirees, are advised to be more careful and not to easily believe any online job offers promoted on social media websites and applications.
"For any advice or information, they can contact the nearest police station or the CCID Infoline at 013-2111222.
"If you become a victim of a scam, immediately contact the National Scam Response Centre by calling 997 to immediately stop the flow of money out of the suspect's accounts," he said.
