SIBU: A "Datuk" is one of the two people arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly bribing enforcement officers and misappropriating subsidised diesel here.
According to sources, the two suspects, a man and woman in their 60s, are believed to have bribed several law enforcers in return for not taking legal action against the company they work for, which is believed to have misappropriated subsidised diesel.
"Both suspects are the chairman and director of a company that manages the purchase and sale of subsidised diesel.
"They are suspected of misappropriating subsidised diesel by smuggling and selling it to outside parties. To protect their activities, they allegedly bribed several law enforcers," said the sources.
It was learnt that one of the suspects was detained at the Sibu MACC office, while the other was detained at a medical centre here between 11.20am 12.30pm today (Oct 8).
MACC senior director (Special Operations Division) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman confirmed the arrests and said the case was being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.
He said the two suspects were released on RM50,000 bail.
