MACC remands influencer couple and 2 others suspected of donation fraud

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has remanded four people, including a married couple who are influencers, suspected of being involved in the misappropriation of public donation funds.

According to sources, the suspects, consisting of three men and one woman in their 20s and 30s, were detained between 6:30pm and 11:00pm last night when they came to give statements at the MACC headquarters.

Following their detention, all suspects were brought to the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court this morning. Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin issued a four-day remand order starting today until July 14.

"The suspects, who are a married couple, are believed to have been committing this act since 2020 by misappropriating collected donations that were not properly channelled.

"It is estimated that the misappropriated donations amount to about RM3 million, and investigations are still at an early stage.

"At the same time, two other suspects were also detained for being suspected of involvement in the same case," the source said.

Meanwhile, MACC Investigation Division senior director, Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim, confirmed the arrests when contacted and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
