Ex-NGO worker arrested over RM48,000 'Datuk Seri' deal

MELAKA: A former NGO worker was arrested for allegedly soliciting and receiving RM48,000 in bribes to help a businessman receive a "Datuk Seri" title in 2023.

According to a source, the 42-year-old woman was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at its office in Melaka yesterday evening.

The source said the woman deposited money she received from the businessman into her personal account.

"It is believed that multiple transactions were made to her account between 2022 and 2023."

Meanwhile, Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the woman's arrest. She has been remanded for five days.

The case is being probed under Section 16(a)(A) MACC Act for accepting gratification.
