Three sons of Al-Arqam founder released on bail

MELAKA: The Syariah High Court here granted bail to three sons of the late Al-Arqam founder, Ashaari Muhammad today.

Syariah Judge Mohd Yunus Mohamad Zin made the decision after the remand period for the suspects, aged 38, 42, and 45 ended today.

Prosecution, represented by Chief Syariah Prosecutor Atras Mohamad Zin, requested a bail amount of RM3,000 or two guarantors for each suspect.

Defence attorneys, Mohd Hafizuddin Ahmad Mispha and Mohd Faizal Mohamad, did not oppose the request.

A follow-up hearing has been scheduled for Dec 19.

Earlier, all three suspects appeared at the Melaka Syariah Court Complex around 9am to face charges.

Atras, assisted by Deputy Norazita Mohd Ali, informed the court that seven other suspects remain in custody and are being investigated by the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) in connection with the case.

He requested the charges against the three suspects be postponed to allow the prosecution to determine whether all ten suspects will be charged together under Section 63 and Section 91 of the Melaka Syariah Criminal Offenses Enactment 1991, for insulting and mocking Islam and attempting to commit those offences.

The request was made under Section 95 of the Melaka Syariah Criminal Procedure Enactment 2002.

Earlier, it was reported that 11 individuals were arrested and 34 children were rescued during an operation across three districts in the state.

Nineteen premises linked to GISB Holdings (GISB) were raided, including charity homes, a bakery, restaurants, curtain shops, mini markets, a noodle processing factory, and management offices.
