AMPANG: Police are investigating a workshop owner who allegedly threatened his 35-year-old former employee for lodging a theft and assault report against him last week.
The workshop owner had apparently forced the complainant to withdraw the report he had made on Oct 8 via a WhatsApp voice message that was sent to him, a day after he lodged the report against his former boss.
Ampang Jaya district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail, when contacted today said police had opened an investigation paper on the complainant's report and had summoned the workshop owner for his statement.
He said initially the former employee had accused the workshop owner of theft and claimed that he was assaulted by the man in a report he lodged at the Pandan Indah police station last Tuesday.
"Following the victim's report, an investigation was opened under Section 380 for theft and Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt," he said, adding that this most likely led the suspect to threaten the victim to withdraw the report.
Azam said the suspect threatened the victim that if he did not withdraw the report, he would be in trouble and not be able to go anywhere, except to jail.
"The victim lodged a second report over the threat he received via WhatsApp and an investigation is underway for the workshop owner, who is in his 40's, under Section 506 of the Penal Code," he said.
Azam said the victim worked at the workshop for three years before he was accused of stealing things from the workshop and resigned about a year back.
