Kuantan housewife loses almost RM700,000 in investment fraud

KUANTAN: A 42-year-old housewife lost RM690,000 of her savings after falling victim to an online investment scheme in July.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said on July 17, the victim spotted an investment scheme through WhatsApp.

"The scheme was offered through a WhatsApp group and she was provided with a link to register. In July and August, the victim was given online training to buy shares.

"The victim made 25 transactions amounting RM690,000 into two separate bank accounts between July 19 and Oct 14. She received some RM50,000 in profit and chose to reinvest in the scheme before losing all her savings," he said in a statement today (Oct 19).

Yahaya said the case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and advised the public not to be duped by investment schemes offering huge returns.
